Suspect Held on $500K Bond After Firing Shots in the Air in Grayslake Neighborhood

Police from Grayslake responded about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2023 to a report of shots fired in the block of 300 Clarewood Circle in Grayslake. No injuries were reported.

A caller in a neighborhood of single-family homes saw a large male walking near his home after he heard a gunshot, then he heard another gunshot, and called 9-1-1. Police arrived on the scene, and interviewed witnesses and retrieved surveillance video.




Several other witnesses reported hearing gunshots. From witness reports and surveillance video retrieved at the scene, police were able to identify a suspect, Jesse J. Sanchez, age 22. Sanchez is 5’8″ 285 LBS. When police officers arrested Sanchez, they found a 9mm handgun with no serial number in his pocket. They also discovered Sanchez was wearing an ankle monitor, and was on parole from a Cook County unlawful use of weapon charge and conviction. Casings were also recovered at the scene.

Sanchez was allegedly firing a handgun into the air while walking between houses.

Sanchez had no FOID card, and was a convicted felon on parole out of Stateville Correctional Center in Crest Hill, Illinois near Joliet. Sanchez was previously charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon in Cook County and was placed in custody on January 23, 2022. His parole date was August 2, 2022.

Lake County Judge Christopher Lombardo set bond at $500,000 (10%). Sanchez was booked on January 20, 2023 and remains in jail as of Tuesday morning, January 24, 2023.
