Driver Crashes Stolen Hyundai into Streets & Sanitation Truck, Winona St and Oakley Ave Chicago

Police and firefighters responded about 10:43 a.m. Monday, December 12, 2022 after suspects in a stolen Hyundai crashed into a Streets and Sanitation truck at the intersection of Winona Street and Oakley Avenue in Chicago.

Chicago police officers located the stolen Hyundai in the block of 5100 North Oakley Avenue. While the offender in possession of the stolen Hyundai was traveling southbound with three passengers, the Hyundai struck the rear end of a Streets and Sanitation and caught fire. The rear of the box truck style truck also caught fire.




Four offenders fled on foot after the crash, and all four were taken into custody. There were no injuries reported at the crash scene.

Chicago firefighters arrived an extinguished the fire with a trash line.

The stolen Hyundai was also suspected to have been used in a previous armed robbery, according to the Chicago Police Department.




The robbery remains under investigation by area detectives, and it was initially not confirmed whether the Hyundai was used in additional robberies. Charges are pending, according to the Chicago Police Department.
