Multiple police units from Gurnee, Grayslake, Waukegan and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded Tuesday night after a license plate reader detected a stolen vehicle about 8:55 p.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2022 on northbound I-94 WEST near Old Orchard Road. After following a suspect and stolen vehicle detected on northbound I-94 WEST near Skokie, the vehicle was recovered and the suspect was in custody in Gurnee about one hour later.

When vehicle was spotted by police on northbound I-94 Tuesday night, police followed the vehicle as it traveled generally north in Lake County. After the suspect drove into the property of the Osprey Lake Apartments in Gurnee off of Delaney Road via Ryan Road, he exited the Dodge and left it behind while fleeing on foot.

Initially, one suspect was at large, but police had a suspect in custody by about 9:50 p.m., and recovered the dark gray Dodge Challenger about 9:45 p.m. The suspect was described as a male/black with dreadlocks, and had been last seen after he got out of the Dodge Challenger and moved toward the block of 4200 Coral Berry Park in The Preserve at Osprey Lake Apartments property. He may have entered an apartment building. Several police units and at least one K-9 unit converged into the area of the apartment complex.

Police detained a suspect and placed him in an unmarked Chevy Tahoe about 9:50 p.m. It wasn’t initially clear whether he was apprehended inside or outside.
