Palatine Firefighters Extinguish House Fire on Schubert St Palatine

Police, firefighters and paramedics from Palatine responded at 2:12 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2022 to a report of a house fire at 269 North Schubert Street in Palatine. The first Palatine Fire Department unit arrived on scene four minutes after dispatch and to reported fire and smoke coming from the large front window of a one-story, single-family home. Initial responding crews met with a neighbor who reported the resident was out of the home. The initial fire crews deployed a hose line and opened the ceiling on the first floor, ensuring there was no fire in the attic above the living space. Additional crews searched the house and confirmed there were no victims. The fire was declared under control at 2:30 a.m. Firefighters continued to move debris, check void spaces for hidden fire, and ventilate smoke and toxic gases for a significant amount of time after the fire was extinguished.

The Palatine Fire Department reminds everyone to have working smoke detectors in their homes, whether a single-family dwelling, an apartment, or a condo. Have an escape plan, practice it, and be prepared to use it in the event of any fire. In an emergency, do not delay exiting the home to search for pets or any other belongings.

No firefighters were injured in the fire. One civilian was assessed by paramedics, and transported to the hospital for further medical attention, according to the Palatine Fire Department. Due to the significant fire and smoke damage, the home is uninhabitable.

one rescue squad,

one ladder truck, and

three ambulances.

Four command officers also responded to the scene. During the incident, a unit from the Long Grove Fire Protection District stood by at Palatine Fire Station 82 to provide coverage for any additional calls.

Palatine Police officers assisted at the scene with traffic and crowd control.

Damage estimates were not available at the time of the release from Palatine Fire Department.

The fire remains under investigation by Palatine Fire Department Investigators.
