A white Chevy Corvette taken in an armed carjacking in Elk Grove Village at about 4:43 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2022 was involved in a crash and fire at about 9:14 a.m. during a police pursuit on Chicago’s south side. One vehicle was on fire after the crash on the inbound (northbound) lanes of Interstate 57 near the Bishop Ford Expressway. The crash occurred close to Wentworth Avenue just before the interchange of I-57 and I-94 near the Fernwood and Roseland neighborhoods in Chicago. Initially it was unknown whether other vehicles were involved in the crash.




The vehicle fire was extinguished by about 9:30 a.m.

A suspect or suspects were reported to be in custody. One person was transported from the crash scene with apparent non-life-threatening injuries to Roseland Hospital.

A police pursuit began in the area of Cicero Avenue and 175th Street with speeds up to 100 MPH when a Country Club Hills police officer spotted the carjacked Corvette at about 8:50 a.m. The pursuit continued on arterial streets until about 9:00 a.m. when the suspects entered northbound I-57. Police lost sight of the Corvette at one point, but the vehicle was spotted again, and the pursuit resumed. The suspect(s) exited I-57 for a short time, and then became involved in a crash with fire on the inbound I-57 near Wentworth Avenue.




The crash caused a traffic backup on inbound I-57 back to 111th Street at about 9:40 a.m.

Elk Grove Village police responded about 4:43 AM Tuesday October 18, 2022 to a report of a vehicular hijacking at 2700 Elmhurst Road Elk Grove Village, IL. Police received a report that two offenders took a white 2015 Chevy Corvette in an armed vehicular hijacking.




The offenders were described as two male/black suspects, age 20, with masks, wearing all black. A handgun was displayed by at least one of the offenders, according to a report.

The offenders used a chase vehicle described as a black Honda Accord with tinted windows.

The suspect and vehicles were last seen northbound on Delta Lane from Pan Am Boulevard — just west of Elmhurst Road (York Road).
