Police, firefighters and paramedics from Chicago responded about 8:22 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2022 to a report of multiple shots fired, resulting in a boy shot inside his home in the block of 2600 West Potomac Avenue. Chicago police, working to secure the scene, found a seven year-old male inside the residence with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.




The boy was transported by Chicago Fire Department paramedics to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, and was later pronounced dead Thursday, October 27, 2022 at 12:23 a.m.

A family member told Chicago police officers that the 7 year-old child was in the washroom washing his hands when a bullet traveled through the window and struck the boy in the abdomen.

The shooting occurred on a street of townhomes and apartments in the Humboldt Park neighborhood just southwest of the intersection of Western Avenue and North Avenue.




CPD Area Five Detectives are investigating the shooting. Initially no suspect is in custody.
