Following the news of Olivia Newton-John’s death at age 73, Tottie Goldsmith made an appearance on Australia’s “A Current Affair” and reflected on her aunt’s final days, revealing that she had a chance to say goodbye. “It’s not a shock, we’ve known how sick she’s been, especially the last five days,” she shared. In an interview with Australia’s A Current Affair after the news, Newton-John’s niece Tottie Goldsmith recalled asking her if she was “afraid of dying” while she was sick and receiving treatment at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute in Melbourne, Australia.

“She said, ‘Plonker’, which was my nickname to her, ‘I’m not. I’m not afraid. I’ve done more in my life than I could have ever imagined.’ She honestly never imagined her life would be how it was,” Goldsmith explained.

POSSIBLE STATE FUNERAL IN AUSTRALIA …

When Olivia’s final days arrived, Goldsmith couldn’t make the trip to the United States in time to say goodbye in person. Instead she used FaceTime with help from Olivia’s husband John Easterling.

Goldsmith also revealed that Newton-John’s cancer battle left her with a “very susceptible immune system” and that she was susceptible to “secondary infections.” Goldsmith said the last five days she was especially ill.

Today, Olivia’s daughter Chloe posted a duet “Window in The Wall” by Olivia Newton-John and Chloe Lattanzi, and written by Tom Paden, Eddie Kilgallon, and Tajci Cameron.

The lyrics took a long road to reach Olivia Newton-John.

A songwriter in Nashville, Tom Paden, figured he’d already tried to sell the song to about 150 singers, producers, record labels and publishing companies since penning it mid-2020 with his writing partner. His cousin, who lives in Bremen, Georgia, a town west of Atlanta near the Alabama state line, asked if it was OK to promote the song to a woman who might want to turn it into a duet with her daughter.

“I was sitting there thinking, ‘You know, I’m down to some gal and her daughter from Bremen who probably can’t sing,’” said Paden, who graduated in 1980 with a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. “So I’m like, ‘You know, at this point, whatever. If they want to record the song, that’s fine. I’m done.’”

His cousin gave the woman Paden’s phone number and a few months later—it happened to be October 13, on Paden’s birthday, when his phone rang. On the other end of the line was the woman who’d been sent the song. Her name was Olivia.

Olivia Newton-John.

“She was lovely. She was sweet, humble,” Paden recalled. “She asked, ‘You don’t want to get a big country artist to sing this song?’ and I said, ‘No, are you kidding? You’re Olivia Newton-John.’”

So Newton-John and her daughter, Chloe Lattanzi, recorded “Window in the Wall” as a duet. The song was released Jan. 22, 2021 (Jan. 21, 2021 on YouTube) and now is available on Spotify, iTunes, YouTube and elsewhere online.
