The northwest suburbs near Arlington Heights were hit by thunderstorms with frequent lightning beginning about 11:30 p.m. Monday. Several downed power lines were still being discovered Tuesday morning about 6:00 a.m. Most of the reported damage to ComEd power lines and other equipment was south of US-12. Power outages to ComEd customers were mostly reported involving 100 to 200 customers or less.

The largest power outages in Arlington Heights were near Euclid Avenue and Dryden Avenue, and just north of Prospect High School near Kensington Road. The reports of power outage areas were more numerous east of Route 83 in Des Plaines and Park Ridge.

9:14 AM — Shingles blown on to electric wires (apparently overnight) causing electric sparking or arcing at a commercial building at 1212 Jarvis Avenue in Elk Grove Village.

7:32 AM — Smoke investigation on the first floor of Village Hall near the police department at 50 Raupp Boulevard in Buffalo Grove.

6:57 AM — Elevator rescue for a person stuck in an elevator due to a power outage at Hampton Inn, 891 Plaza Drive in Schaumburg.

6:18 AM — Tree fell on a power line near Taylor Road and Hart Road in Barrington.

5:57 AM — Power line down in the block of 900 Park Plaine Avenue near Oakton Street in Park Ridge.

5:55 AM — Power line down in the block of 400 Trailside Lane Des Plaines.

5:36 AM — Branch down on electric service line to a residence in the block of 1700 Linden Street in Des Plaines.

3:56 AM — Electrical hazard (blown transformer) at a commercial building at 880 South Lively Boulevard in Elk Grove Village.

3:29 AM — Activated alarm at a sub-station near Harvest Bible Church, 800 Rohlwing Road in Rolling Meadows.

3:19 AM — Natural gas odor at a commercial building at 1315 Louis Avenue Elk Grove Village.

2:21 AM — Strong smell of natural gas with a hissing noise at Exclusive Stone, 1361 Jarvis Avenue Elk Grove Village. Business agent turned off the gas meter before firefighters arrived.

1:05 AM — Tonne Road blocked in Elk Grove Village

12:59 AM Tuesday — Multiple trees down on Trailside Lane north of Ballard Road Des Plaines.

12:52 AM Tuesday — Fire reported at Morton Grove Condos, 8640 Waukegan Road

12:48 AM Tuesday — Trees down across the road in the block of 8900 Shermer Road in Morton Grove

12:45 AM Tuesday — Transformer fire in the block of 800 Sylviawood Avenue Park Ridge.

12:09 AM — Tree and power line problem with fire Plum Tree Road near Ridge Road in Barrington Hills.

12:08 AM — Blown transformer at Jarvis Avenue and Lively Boulevard Elk Grove Village.

12:04 AM Tuesday — Activated Fire Alarm at apartment building at 200 North Arlington Heights Road

12:03 AM — Tree fell on a house in the block of 200 East Beech Drive in Schaumburg.

11:59 PM — Elevator rescue for a person stuck in an elevator due to a power outage at the Hampton Inn, 2825 Greenspoint Parkway, Hoffman Estates.

11:57 PM — Power lines on fire in trees in the backyard and an issue with the utility polie in the block of 1400 Mayfield Lane Hoffman Estates.

11:56 PM Monday — Power lines on fire in trees near Northwest Highway and Pepper Road.

11:50 PM Monday — Possible exploded transformer in the block of 600 Bunting Lane in Mount Prospect.

11:44 PM Monday — Activated Fire Alarm at a commercial building 316 West University Drive in Arlington Heights.

11:42 PM Monday — House fire on the roof, possibly caused by a lightning strike, on Macalpin Drive near Dunbarton Drive in Inverness. Firefighters on arrival report fire showing from the roof; incident updated to a working fire.

11:40 PM Monday — Activated Fire Alarm at a professional office at 9 East Campbell Street in Arlington Heights.

11:37 PM Monday — Activated Fire Alarm at Arlington Park Grandstand, 2200 West Euclid Avenue in Arlington Heights.

11:33 PM Monday — Tree branch on a power line with a fire in the block of 21900 North Harbor Road in Barrington.
