Crash at Route 176 and Franklinville Rd Northeast of Union Kills Motorcyclist

McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and firefighters and paramedics from Marengo responded about 7:10 p.m. Saturday, July 30, 2022 to a report of a crash with injuries involving a motorcycle and a BMW at Route 176 and Franklinville Road in unincorporated Seneca Township northeast of Union and east of Marengo.

A crew from Marengo requested “Flight” (LifeNet) to launch for a motorcyclist down at the side of the road. Seconds later paramedics determined the patient was unresponsive without a pulse, and cancelled the LifeNet helicopter response.

The male motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.




Two people traveling in a blue BMW were injured with apparent non-life-threatening injuries were treated an transported by paramedics to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital.

McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputies shutdown westbound Route 176 at McCue Road and eastbound Route 176 at Peterson Olson Road. Route 176 remained closed for an extended crash investigation.

The crash appeared to be a head-on crash. The driver of the blue BMW may have been attempting a left turn from eastbound Route 176 to northbound on Franklinville Road, when the motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Route 176.
