Police, firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 7:32 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2022 to a report of a stabbing victim located at the BP gas station at 2250 South Arlington Heights Road in Arlington Heights.
Firefighter/paramedics located a stabbing victim with significant blood loss inside the store at the BP gas station. Paramedics transported the victim to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General hospital, leaving the scene by about 7:40 p.m.
Arlington Heights Police set up a large perimeter that ranged from the entire BP gas station property to part of the Red Roof Inn property. Police were also located at the Comfort Inn.
A witness reported that a male/black was surrounded by four male/black suspects in the gas pump area at the BP station. When the stabbing victim was surrounded by the four male/black suspects, the victim was chased around the pumps, and then along the sidewalk along Arlington Heights Road. The witness said the victim was stabbed in the northeast corner of the BP gas station property. He then ran into the gas station convenience store, and may have been stabbed additional times inside the store. The four suspects then fled northbound on foot toward the Red Roof Inn.
One of the suspects may have previously lived at the Red Roof Inn with financial assistance from a social service agency or charity, according to a witness. The suspect recently lost his financial assistance and needed to move out of his room because of repeated trouble that he caused, according to a witness.
Police set up a search perimeter, and mutual aid police from Buffalo Grove and Palatine also responded to the scene. A Harper College police SUV was also on the scene.
Initially it was unknown whether any of the suspects were captured. An on scene investigation was underway Tuesday night, and the BP station was closed for business late Tuesday night. Police were using a drone for aerial photography as part of the investigation.
Two additional ambulances were dispatched to the scene. At least one of the ambulances was staged at the scene as a precaution. Initially no other victims or injuries were reported.
