Uvalde Police: Suspect Acted Alone

Police and firefighter/paramedics from Uvalde, Texas responded about 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2022 to a report of an active shooter at Robb Elementary School, 715 Old Carrizo Road in Uvalde, Texas about 85 miles west of San Antonio.

An ‘Active Shooter’ suspect was in custody about 1:00 p.m. Tuesday. Initially, no injuries were reported, but after a prolonged delay since the incident unfolded, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott initially announced 14 students were killed, and one teacher was killed. Four students are listed in critical condition, among several others injured.

Around 6:30 p.m. CT, 18 children were reported dead. Later Tuesday night, two teachers were reported dead, and 19 children were reported dead.

One or more of responding police officer(s) shot and killed the shooting suspect. The identity of the shooting suspect has been released as Salvador Romas, age 18.

Schools in the area were placed on lockdown after a report of gunshots.
