The identity of the first gunshot victim that died early Sunday at the Blackhawk Apartments was released Monday, April 11, 2022 as Johnathan King, age 32, of Elgin. A second shooting died on Monday. His identity was released as Jaysin Rodriguez, age 19, of Elgin.
Police, firefighters and paramedics from Elgin responded about 1:59 a.m. Sunday, April 10, 2022 to a report of a shooting in the block of 800 Congdon Avenue in Elgin. Upon arrival police officers located five subjects with gunshot wounds. The victims were transported to area hospitals by fire department paramedics. A MABAS Division 2 EMS Box Alarm #2-491 was activated at 2:20 a.m., and paramedic rescue ambulances from Carpentersville and South Elgin were assigned to the box alarm.
A sixth victim with gunshot wound(s) arrived at a local hospital via personal transportation. One male adult victim was pronounced dead at the hospital. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family, and will be released by the Kane County Coroner’s Office following an autopsy.
According to Elgin Police Department, information received is that the shooting incident occurred during a gathering and appears to be an isolated incident. Detectives from the Major Investigations Division and Special Investigations Division are actively investigating the case and the preliminary investigation revealed that several subjects were gathering at a residence and subsequently victims were struck by gunfire.
