Jonathan Mejia, age 18, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with a deadly road rage shooting of Scott Mattison on Bartlett Road in Streamwood Sunday, February 27, 2022.

Jonathan Mejia, of the block of 300 Cedar Circle Court in Streamwood was also charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in connection with the fatal shooting of Scott Mattison, age 46.

Streamwood police investigators with the assistance of the Major Case Assistance Team determined Mattison was driving his work van on Bartlett Road just before 5:20 PM when he got into a dispute with the driver of a white Ford Taurus — identified as Jonathan Mejia.

Police investigators alledge that Jonathan Mejia shot Mattison multiple times.

Scott Mattison, age 46, was shot four times after he got out of his light blue work truck and confronted the driver of a white Ford Taurus sedan on Bartlett Road near Oltendorff Road in Streamwood. A video circulated on Twitter and other social media showed that Mattison’s light blue Paragon Mechanical work van — belonging to an HVAC company based in Arlington Heights — was parked in front of a white Ford Taurus sedan in daylight. The Paragon Mechanical work van was stopped in front of the Ford Taurus in a center traffic lane of southbound Bartlett Road — a stretch of road that is a four-lane thoroughfare with no shoulder and no center turning lanes.

The video of the fatal shooting was captured from a motorist in a position directly behind the Ford Taurus. The driver’s door of the shooting victim’s Paragon Mechanical work van was still open. The video begins with Mattison, wearing a blue shirt and black pants, positioning his head partially inside the driver’s door window opening. Mattison then raises his right arm and puts it almost entirely inside the driver’s side window opening. Viewers of the video can’t see the driver inside the Ford Taurus, but Mattison removes his arm from the Ford Taurus window opening, and as he is backing away from the Ford Taurus, four gunshots are heard in quick succession. Mattison grabs his abdomen and chest region of his body, spins and falls to the street on the center line of the four-lane roadway.

The video stops immediately after the driver of the Ford Taurus puts the vehicle in reverse, apparently to make room to move around the Paragon Mechanical work van.
