McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies, and firefighters and paramedics from Crystal Lake, Nunda Rural FPD and Cary were assigned about 3:15 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2022 to a report of a serious rollover crash with injuries at 2101 Route 176 in Prairie Grove.

Deputies and paramedics on arrival discovered one victim entrapped and deceased in a 2002 Toyota Highlander. A second person, the driver of a cargo truck, was found seriously injured on the ground. Paramedics arrived within two minutes.

The driver of the Toyota Highlander was identified as Tyler King, age 27 of Crystal Lake, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The other crash victim is a Wauconda man in his 50s, who was airlifted to Level 1 Trauma Advocate Condell Medical Center.

According to McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Tyler King was driving westbound in the block of 2000 Route 176, west of Bayview Beach Road in Prairie Grove, when he crossed the center line into the eastbound lane. The Toyota Highlander that King was driving struck a 2001 Ford E350 cargo truck.

According to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, there was initially no explanation regarding why King’s Toyota Highland veered into the eastbound lane of Route 176. Upon impact the Ford E350 cargo truck was forced off the roadway, overturned, and spilled cargo.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

The crash scene was located in the jurisdiction of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and the Nunda Rural Fire Protection District near Ringers Landscape Services, Inc. The landscape business is located at the former location of the The Boat House of Chicago, which after merging with Bald Knob Marina in January 2020, is located at the location of the former Bald Knob Marina in Johnsburg.
