Arlington Heights Public Works staff honored Karl John Chabowski around 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2022 during a funeral procession past the L.A. Hanson Public Works Center, 222 North Ridge Avenue. Karl John Chabowski, a public works mechanic, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 1, 2022.

When Chabowski didn’t arrive at work Tuesday morning, police were sent on a check for well-being call and discovered him deceased at home. Karl John Chabowski died at age 54.

Public works trucks lined Ridge Avenue east of the public works facility and Eastman Street north of the facility. Forestry department aerial bucket trucks were used to display US flags overhead — one at the beginning of the line of public works trucks at Eastman Street and Salem Avenue, and one at the end of the line of public works trucks near Ridge Avenue and Wing Street. One of the Arlington Heights Fire Department ladder towers was at the middle of the honor display and draped a Village of Arlington Heights flag overhead on Ridge Avenue. Chabowski frequently worked on fire apparatus, keeping the vehicles ready for service; and also worked on emergency repairs for plows when they broke during snowstorms.

Visitation was Thursday, March 10, 5 pm to 8 pm at the Meadows Funeral Home, 3615 Kirchoff Rd, Rolling Meadows, and interment was private.
