A 50-foot-tall Christmas tree in Jack London Square was intentionally set on fire, according to city firefighters. An arson investigation is underway and officials plan to continue with the lighting ceremony scheduled for Saturday. YouTube Tips ⓘ

Police and firefighters from Oakland responded about 1:20 a.m. Monday, December 6, 2021 to a report that the Oakland Christmas Tree was on fire at Jack London Square, 472 Water Street in Oakland, California.

A canister was found at the scene that is initially assessed to be connected to an accelerant that was used to ignite the tree. A motive is initially unknown, and the suspect that ignited the 50-foot real Douglas Fir Christmas Tree is at large.

No injuries were reported.
