The peak damaging winds are expected to occur between 8PM and 3AM, and the peak extreme winds in Arlington Heights and nearby northwest suburbs are expected to occur between 10PM and 1AM.

Sandwiched within that high wind time will be a line of rapidly moving convective showers crossing northern Illinois late this evening and gradually fading in intensity during the overnight.

There is an unusually strong low level jet moving over only about 1,000 to 4,000 feet above the surface.

Daily record high temperatures today are forecast that may close in on the all-time December record high at Rockford.

The air temperature in Arlington Heights was already 54°F at 7:15 a.m. and record temperatures for the date are possible with temperatures reaching the mid-60s and upper 60s.

Tornado threat exists in Iowa, southeastern Minnesota, eastern Nebraska, and western Wisconsin. The greatest threat is in northern and western Iowa, southeast Minnesota, and far west central Wisconsin.
