DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Addison Director of Police Bill Hayden announced today that bond has been set for a Glendale Heights resident accused of breaking into an elderly woman’s home and sexually assaulting her. Anthony Lane, age 53, of the 2200 block of Century Point Lane, appeared at a bond hearing this morning, Monday, December 6, 2021, where Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh set bond at $5 million with 10% to apply. Lane has been charged with one count of Home Invasion (Class X Felony) and two counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault (Class X Felony).

On the week of Thanksgiving, Monday, November 22, 2021, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the ninety-two-year-old victim entered her attached garage after returning home from her dialysis appointment. It is alleged that as the victim turned to close the garage door, she saw an individual, later identified as Lane, standing in her doorway. It is alleged that as the victim tried to close the door to her home, the defendant forced the door open and pushed the victim into the residence. It is further alleged that Lane bound the victim’s hands with duct tape, carried the victim upstairs, placed her on a bed in her bedroom and sexually assaulted her. It is alleged that after assaulting the victim, Lane fled the home. Following the alleged assault, the victim called 911 and was transported to a local hospital for medical attention. Through the course of their investigation, authorities identified Lane as a suspect in the case. On Thursday, December 2, 2021, Addison Police took Lane into custody.

“The allegations that Mr. Lane broke into an elderly woman’s home, duct taped his victim and sexually assaulted her are extraordinarily disturbing. Thanks to the efforts of the Addison Police Department however, Mr. Lane was identified as a suspect, apprehended and now faces several Class X felonies punishable by up to one hundred twenty years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. In addition to the Addison Police Department, I commend all the agencies involved for their outstanding work on this case. I also thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Cathy Nusgart and Nick Catizone for their work in preparing a strong case against Mr. Lane.”

— DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin

“I extend my sincerest gratitude to the Bloomingdale Police Department, the DuPage County Metropolitan Enforcement Group and the Illinois State Police Crime Lab who all worked hand in hand with my office ultimately leading to the successful identification and apprehension of the suspect in this case. I also thank State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and his office for their legal guidance.”

— Addison Director of Police Bill Hayden

Lane’s next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, December 21, 2021, for status in front of Judge O’Hallaren Walsh.

Members of the public are reminded that these complaints contain only charges and are not pkloof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and ilks entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
