Vehicle-Ramming Attack Kills 5, Injures Over 40 in Waukesha Christmas Parade

Overnight Sunday/Monday Waukesha police confirmed that 5 people were killed and 40 people were injured. Initially, police did not confirm the number that were killed at two press conferences.

Police, firefighters and paramedics responded just after 4:39 p.m. Sunday, November 21, 2021 to a report multiple people were injured when the driver of a red SUV plowed into a crowd and injured pedestrians in a Christmas Parade near Main Street and Barstow Street in Waukesha, Wisconsin.




A ‘person of interest’ is in custody, and the vehicle used in the attack was found backed into a long driveway with a bullet hole in the windshield near the intersections of Maple Avenue and Arlington Street and Maple Avenue and Williams Street. The offender’s vehicle, described as a burgundy older model Ford Escape SUV was found in a residential neighborhood about a 3500-foot traveling distance southwest of the vehicle-ramming crime scene at Main Street and Barstow Street in Waukesha.

Police have said that no shots were fired from the vehicle, but a six-year veteran of the police department fired shots at the vehicle in an attempt to stop the vehicle.

In the aftermath, a power failure occurred at or near the scene, and a lockdown “shelter in place” was activated for a short time period Sunday night.

The next press conference is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 22, 2021.

SUNDAY NIGHT UPDATE WITH TWO PRESS CONFERENCES:

At least 20 injured and fatalities were reported.

At least twenty individuals struck. Fatalities were confirmed, but the number of fatalities were not initially released.

A police officer discharged his weapon to attempt to stop the vehicle.

Person of interest in custody, and police are no longer looking for the vehicle.

MABAS Box Alarm to the second level activated; EMS from Waukesha and MABAS mutual aid units transported 11 adults and 12 pediatric patients to 6 area hospitals.

Press conference 9:00 p.m. from Police Chief Daniel Thompson announced that road closures and other closures will continue through tomorrow (11/22); Chief Daniel Thompson also provided ID checkpoint information for residents in the area, and counseling details.

The next press conference was scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 22, 2021.

An SUV sped into a Christmas parade in the Milwaukee suburb of Waukesha on Sunday, leaving multiple people injured, according to local officials and witnesses. FOX6 News Milwaukee’s Sam Kraemer offers a quick update. YouTube Tips ⓘ

Initially, shots were heard during the incident, but there was no official word who fired the shots. A person commented on the Waukesha Police Department official Facebook page that police shot at the fleeing driver in the vehicle. A video (below) appears to support that information.




SHOTS FIRED WHEN SUV PASS THROUGH BARRIERS

Videos captured the incident. A live feed provided by the City of Waukesha captured the incident from a distance, and showed that the driver of the SUV broke through barriers and drove into the parade just behind a school marching band that was in the parade. Another video shows that the band was playing ‘Jingle Bells’ when the vehicle came up from behind the marching band, and appeared to pass the band while the band kept playing.

Waukesha Police posted on their official Facebook page that the family reunification location is at the Metro Transit Center by Bank Street in Waukesha.
