One month after the remains of Brian Laundrie were found in a swamp in Florida, autopsy results were released on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 that ruled the suspect in the Gabby Petito homicide in Wyoming died by suicide with a gunshot to the head.

When his girlfriend Gabby Petito’s cause of death was ruled to be strangulation, Brian Laundrie became the subject of a manhunt wanted for the homicide investigation of Gabby Petito. Dr. Brent Blue, Teton County, Wyoming coroner released on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 that the cause of death of Gabby Petito was ruled to be strangulation.

The Schmidt and Petito family has been aware of the circumstances surrounding the suicide of the sole suspect in Gabby’s murder. Gabby’s family will not be making a statement at this time due to the request of the United States Attorney’s Office and the Teton County Prosecutor’s Office. The family was asked to not make any comments and let the FBI continue their investigation. The family was also asked to wait for the United States Attorney’s Office to make a determination on whether any additional individuals will be charged. When that determination is made, we will have a statement.

The FBI had confirmed on Thursday, October 21, 2021 that remains found in the Carlton Reserve on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 were the remains of Brian Laundrie. Mostly skeletal remains were discovered and dental records were matched to the skeletal remains, according to the FBI Denver.

The FBI Denver Division announced that on Thursday, October 21, 2021, a comparison of dental records confirmed that the human remains found at the T. Mabry Carlton, Jr. Memorial Reserve and Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park were those of Brian Laundrie.

Additional individuals could face charges if they lied to law enforcement, including the FBI, and if they helped Brian Laundrie escape law enforcement, and therefore eliminate the possibility of questioning Brian Laundrie for the homicide investigation of Gabby Petito.
