Police, firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded about 6:57 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2021 to a report of a crash into a rear wall of the First Baptist Church of Arlington Heights at 1211 West Campbell Street in Arlington Heights.
On arrival police and firefighters discovered the female driver of a Toyota Highlander SUV crashed into a rear brick wall on the south side of the church. The driver did not initially report any injuries, and no pedestrians were injured.
Firefighters assessed the damage, and apparently no risk of any structural collapse was discovered. A brick wall facade collapsed on the windshield of the SUV. The front-end of the vehicle pushed through to about the depth of firewall of the vehicle, but damage to the vehicle initially appeared to be minor to moderate. The windshield was also damaged from falling brick.
Hillside Towing removed the vehicle from the building, and board up was planned to close the opening left in the church.
