Lisle-Woodridge Fire District responded about 1:53 a.m. Monday, September 13, 2021 to a reported structure fire at 6781 Aspen Road, in Lisle Illinois. A resident in the home was awakened by the fire and called 911.

A structure fire response assignment was dispatched, which consists of four engines, two ladder trucks, two ambulances, and command staff. As companies were responding to the scene they were advised from dispatch an elderly person was trapped in the home. Two other residents were able to evacuate the home on their own prior to the arrival of the fire department.

The first unit arrived on the scene and reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear and roof of a detached one-story single-family home. A resident advised that one person was trapped in a bedroom. Firefighters from the first arriving unit initiated rescue operations without the support of a hose line. The resident was located and carried out the front door for evaluation by EMS personnel.

The fire was located on the exterior of the home and attic with heavy fire and high heat conditions. The fire was under control approximately 20 minutes after the first unit arrived. Companies remained on the scene until approximately 5:30 a.m. — performing
salvage and overhaul duties. The structure was deemed uninhabitable by a Village of Lisle Building Department representative.

Chief Keith Krestan stated, “I am extremely proud of our team members. Their quick actions in a dangerous situation certainly changed the outcome. Due to their efforts none of the homeowners required transportation to the hospital.” Lisle-Woodridge firefighters were assisted by firefighters from the Darien-Woodridge Fire District, and Downers Grove Fire Department.

An investigation is being completed by the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District Fire Investigation team.
