Police from Schaumburg responded about 9:45 p.m. Friday June 18, 2021 to a report of shots fired near the carnival in the southeast corner of the Woodfield Mall property, 5 Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg. No gunshot wound injuries were reported Friday night.

Schaumburg police stated that police officers responded to a parking lot area at 5 Woodfield Mall for a report of shots fired. Police officers found a parked, unoccupied vehicle with bullet hole damage. No injuries were reported; however, a Schaumburg Fire Department ambulance was dispatched about 9:49 p.m. for a possible EMS call related to the incident, which also involved one or more groups fighting. A second ambulance was dispatched about 10:18 p.m. to stand by at the scene near a police command post set up for the investigation.

The carnival was scheduled to close at 10:00 p.m. Friday night, and was immediately cleared of people that were in attendance at the carnival.

A criminal investigation perimeter was established that appeared to be located primarily in the large parking lot between Perimeter Drive near Ashley Furniture and DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse to the east, and Sears and Pac-Man Entertainment located in the main mall building to the west (including north of the Sears Auto Center). Traffic was blocked along Perimeter Drive near the scene.

A large red GMC pickup truck was inside the investigation perimeter surrounded with red tape, but initially there was no official confirmation that the pickup truck was the vehicle with the bullet hole damage.

Much of the investigative work at the scene appeared to begin breaking down about 12:10 a.m. Saturday.

Witnesses reported that groups of people of 30 or more were fighting at the scene. Witness said some fighting occurred inside the carnival area near the games. Witnesses in the area of Whole Foods also noticed a large volume of police activity passing by toward Woodfield between 9:50 p.m. and 10:20 a.m.

Schaumburg firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to the scene for a report of person injured or some type of EMS call.

Illinois State Police and Hoffman Estates police officers were also assigned to the scene at Woodfield.

The carnival is scheduled from June 16, to June 20, 2021, and is provided by North American Midway Entertainment. Tickets are purchased at the gate.
