Cook County Sheriff’s Police in a large police response, and firefighters and paramedics from Long Grove Fire Protection District responded about 11:14 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2021 to a report of shots fired at an apartment complex building at 2324 West Nichols Road in unincorporated Arlington Heights.




Paramedics from Long Grove Fire Protection District staged nearby until Cook County Sheriff’s deputies declared the scene was secure for paramedics to move up to the patient with a gunshot wound. An unknown victim was shot in the leg. The shooting victim was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where the victim was listed in good condition.

According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 11:00 p.m. the Cook County Sheriff’s Police responded to a call of shots fired at a residence. Upon interviewing witnesses, it was discovered there might be an additional person shot. The Cook County Sheriff’s Office contacted local hospitals, and a second shooting victim was located at the Emergency Department at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. The second gunshot victim suffered a gunshot wound to the hand. Hospital staff at Northwest Community Hospital stated he was also in good condition.




Police were looking for two male suspects that fled the scene in and unknown direction of travel. A weapon was recovered located on the ground nearby along with a small amount of cannabis and one shoe, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

A witness at the scene said he heard six shots fired, but did not hear any conversation or yelling. The witness said he did not see any people when he heard the six shots fired.

The gun that was located was possibly found on the south or west side of the apartment building address of 2324 West Nichols Road. Police perimeter tape was located at the front of the building on the east side, the south side of the building, and the west side of the building.




The Cook County Sheriff’s Office investigation is ongoing. A large number of Cook County Sheriff’s deputies responded to secure the scene and look for suspects, and were on the scene by 11:30 p.m. Many investigators arrived by midnight.

A serious crash occurred in the same time frame just west of the shooting scene at Hicks Road and Lake Cook Road, but initially there was no known connection between the two incidents.
