Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) argued Thursday, March 18, 2021 at that there is virtually zero chance getting re-infecting by the initial viral strain causing COVID-19 illness. Sen. Paul argued that wearing two masks after your vaccinated is theater. Dr. Anthony Fauci argues that we are living in a situation where variants may cause illness even after a person has been vaccinated.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta, providing contributing information on CNN, claimed that virus infecting vaccinated people may have the opportunity to mutate to another strain that could be harmful. Gupta said that mask wearing by mask-wearing people reduces the risk virus entering a vaccinated person’s body and subsequently reduces the chance of a mutation to a new harmful strain.

Dr. Gupta also said that the time to stop wearing masks is when the virus levels in the community are very low. He said we’re not at that point yet.

Sen. Rand Paul argues that policy is being based on conjecture.

Republican Senator Rand Paul challenged Dr. Fauci on why Americans should wear masks after being vaccinated during a Senate hearing. Dr. Fauci responded that wearing masks after vaccination would be a good practice considering the unknown potential of Covid-19 variants spreading in communities (CNN). YouTube Tips ⓘ
