The identifies of two fire victims, who were found dead at a burning house in the block of 200 Bradwell Road in Inverness, have been identified as Mario Pieracci, age 84, and his wife Marlene Pieracci, age 82. Inverness police and firefighters and paramedics from Palatine Rural Fire Protection District responded to a report of smoke coming from their house at 4:48 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2021. Firefighters immediately went to work to attack the fire and search the home for victims.

Firefighters and paramedics at about 5:05 p.m. removed Mario Pieracci and attempted to resuscitate him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was found in a living area of the home.

About 5:30 p.m. Marlene Pieracci was found unresponsive in a car in the garage. There were no fire conditions in the garage. She was immediately discovered with a gunshot wound, and the gunshot wound was determined to be self-inflicted. Marlene Pieracci’s death was ruled a suicide by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Her husband Mario’s death is still under investigation, but initially it appears he died as a result of the fire. Inverness police do not believe there was foul play involving an offender or offenders from outside the home.

The cause of the fire is also under investigation, and the Office of the State of Illinois Fire Marshal is also working with Palatine Rural Fire Protection District to investigate the fatal fire incident.

A neighbor said the couple lived in the house for at least 40 years.

The Peiracci’s raised two sons, who now live in California and Nevada.
