Condominium Apartment Fire on 32nd Floor on East Randolph St Near North Harbor Dr, Chicago — Extra Alarm Fire

Police and firefighter/paramedics from Chicago responded about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2020 to a report of an apartment fire at 400 East Randolph Street in downtown Chicago.

Firefighters arrived about 12:33 a.m. with nothing showing from the exterior of the building. At about 12:38 a.m. Engine 13’s crew went up to investigate on the 32nd floor where people were reporting smoke. Firefighters reported heavy smoke conditions on the 32nd Floor and the fire response was upgraded to a Still and Box by about 12:40 a.m.

Residents of the building were evacuating on their own down a central stairwell, where CFD ambulance-assigned paramedics were waiting at the stairwell and in the lobby.

The fire call was upgraded to a 2-11 Alarm at 12:54 a.m. Staging of fire crews was at Michigan Avenue and Randolph Street.

An EMS Plan 2 was activated at 1:08 AM. Chicago Department paramedics treated and transported one male patient Code Red, one female patient Code Red, one male patient Code Yellow. An additional three people may have been transported to area hospitals. A dog perished at the scene of the fire on the upper floor.

The fire was declared out by 1:17 a.m. and the 2-11 Alarm was struck out at 1:24 a.m.

CFD Helicopter 6-8-1 declared the roof is clear after being scanned with their camera by about 1:42 a.m.

The EMS Plan 2 was secured at 1:45 AM.
