Townhouse Fire on Jamestown Circle Near Abbey Wood Drive, Hoffman Estates

Police and firefighter/paramedics from Hoffman Estates responded about 5:56 a.m. Thursday August 13, 2020 to a report of a duplex townhouse fire in the block of 1800 Jamestown Circle in Hoffman Estates.

Police reported heavy smoke showing from a distance by about 5:58 a.m., and the fire call was immediately upgraded to a working fire response. A truck and ambulance from Schaumburg, and Engine from Streamwood, and additional fire personnel from Hoffman Estates were dispatched to the scene. Police on arrival reported all residents were evacuated from the building.

Firefighters from Engine 22 on arrival reported fire showing from the outside at the rear of the building. A primary search of the second floor was underway by 6:02 a.m.




Firefighters checked for extension and discovered smoke in the attic over both units.

The fire, which initially appeared to be primarily an outside fire, was knocked from the outside by the first hose line by 6:03 a.m. Some fire was still burning on the second floor at a rear corner of the building, and firefighters were pulling a line interior (the second hose line) to the second floor by 6:03 a.m.

Tower 22’s crew reported by 6:05 a.m. that the primary search was clear on the second floor, and that they were pulling ceiling where they had fire extension in the attic overhead the second floor. The primary search was clear on the first floor by 6:07 a.m. A primary search on the first and second floor of the adjacent townhouse unit was underway by 6:11 a.m. The primary search on the first floor of the fire unit was declared clear by 6:11 a.m.

Firefighters report smoke but no visible flames in the attic by 6:12 a.m. The interior fire appeared to be out by 6:13 a.m., according to a report from an interior fire crew. The primary search in all the units was complete by 6:13 a.m.




The fire inside and outside was declared out by 6:18 a.m., and Hoffman Estates command began releasing fire crews with the release of the Schaumburg truck crew by 6:18 a.m.

No known injuries were reported. Hoffman Estates Battalion 6 was in command of the fire incident response.

Fire departments from Barrington-Countryside, Elk Grove Village, and Elgin provided fire station coverage in Hoffman Estates.
