Powerful Explosion in Beirut, Lebanon — Initially Unknown Cause, Located in Beirut Port

Several videos captured a large explosion large explosion at the Beirut port associated with a tall, rising plume of smoke visible from many angles.

The cause of the explosion was initially unknown. One video shows that an entire building, approximately 10-stories, may have been destroyed or very close to a destructive blast.

The explosion may have involved a fireworks warehouse.

Initially at least 10 people were reported killed and many injured. Later in the day it was reported that at least 50 were killed. Moderate damage was reported about 6 miles away at the Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport.
