LOOTERS REACTED TO SOUTH SIDE INCIDENT

Chicago Police responded about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, August 9, 2020 to a report of a person with a gun in the block of 5700 South Racine Avenue. When police attempted to stop a male that fit the description of the suspect, the male fled on foot. During the a foot pursuit, the fleeing man turned and fired at the officers. Police returned fire, and struck the 20 year-old male.

Following the police-involved shooting, Supt. David Brown said a crowd started to gather on the South Side. Brown said tempers started to flare. Brown also said the Chicago Police Department then became aware of social media posts encouraging looting downtown.
