Suspect in Custody at Morgan and Pershing After Police Pursuit Killed 1, Injured 7 After Police Spot Suspect at 115th St and Cottage Grove, Chicago

A woman was killed and seven others, including police officers, were injured in an hours long high-speed chase through the city.

A suspect who led police on a 70 minute chase that killed a woman and injured seven others was taken into custody about 10:13 p.m. Wednesday June 3, 2020.

Police from Chicago and Illinois State Police Troopers were involved in a police pursuit that started just before 9:15 p.m. Wednesday June 3, 2020. Police reported they were involved in a chase of a suspect wanted for homicide, carjacking and several shootings. The cases possibly originated out of Calumet Park and other nearby suburbs. Chicago police were initially involved in the chase, and Illinois State Police were alerted with information about the pursuit of a black Jeep northbound on the Dan Ryan just south of 35th Street.




Chicago police reported the suspect in a black Jeep was Northbound State Street at 9:13 p.m. with additional updates as follows …

Westbound in the eastbound lanes of 59th Street and then back into the westbound lanes at 9:13 p.m.

Northbound on Wentworth at about 9:13 p.m.

The suspect got on northbound Dan Ryan Expressway at about 9:14 p.m. and Illinois State Police were notified.

The pursuit was northbound on the Dan Ryan at about Hubbard Cave at about 9:19 p.m.

Northbound at Armitage at about 9:21 p.m. and exited at Fullerton Ave at 9:22 p.m.

Southbound Western Avenue from Fullerton Avenue at 9:24 p.m. No updates for awhile.

Suspect got back on the expressway going the wrong way — southbound in the northbound lanes near I-90/94 split at 9:35 p.m.

Exited expressway westbound on Montrose at 9:36 p.m.

Chase terminated by Chicago Police Department supervisor at about 9:37 p.m. — police helicopter observing near Montrose and Menard.

Nagle and Gunnison at 9:40 p.m. then northbound Harlem Avenue, back on the Kennedy Expressway and then southbound on the Kennedy Expressway.

Exiting at Lawrence Avenue — nope.

Exiting Addison from southbound Kennedy Expressway, then eastbound Addison from I-90, Kennedy Expressway at 9:45 p.m.

Southbound Elston from Addison at 9:46 p.m.

Southbound Elston crossing California at 9:47 p.m.

Southbound Elston approaching Armitage at 9:48 p.m.

Southbound Elston at Concord at 9:49 p.m.

Westbound Augusta at 9:49 p.m.

Northbound Throop at 9:50 p.m.




I-90 northbound from North Avenue at 9:50 p.m.

I-90 northbound from Armitage at 9:51 p.m.

I-90 northbound from Damen at 9:51 p.m.

I-90 northbound in Lane 2 at California at 9:51 p.m.

I-90 northbound at Kimball at 9:52 p.m.

I-90 northbound at Addison at 9:52 p.m.

I-90 northbound and exiting at Irving Park Road. Suspect crashed below the expressway near Keystone at 9:53 p.m. Call for EMS at 9:53 p.m. Possibly two injured, but unknown information about injuries in this first of two crashes.

Multiple offenders eastbound on foot at 9:54 p.m.

Trying to carjack a vehicle at 9:54 p.m. Fled in a carjacked silver 2016 Nissan SUV from a gas station at Irving Park Road and Pulaski at 9:55 p.m. The idling Nissan was taken from a female at the gas station. Pursuit apparently resumed after carjacking.

Eastbound Irving Park Road at 9:55 p.m. and immediately a crash occurred involving a police vehicle that hit Ford Explorer with a 37-year-old female, who was transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The police squad that crashed with the Ford Explorer spun or rolled into a white Hummer while its driver was waiting at a red light. The driver, a 62-year-old man, and two passengers, a 29- and 44-year-old woman, were transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where they were listed in fair condition. Two police officers injured in second crash. Several requests for Jaws of Life for extrication. One officer was trapped for about 20 minutes in a passenger seat in the police vehicle.

Pursuit continues eastbound Irving Park Road passing Sacramento at 9:57 p.m.

One suspect that fled the first crash in custody at Irving Park Road and Keystone and one suspect at large in the silver SUV eastbound on Irving Park Road at 9:58 p.m.

Southbound LaSalle on the wrong side of the street at 10:08 p.m.

Southbound Federal Street at 10:08 p.m.

Westbound Root Street from Federal at 10:08 p.m.

Westbound Root Street passing Normal Avenue at 10:08 p.m.

Westbound Root Street passing Halsted Street at 10:09 p.m.

Westbound Exchange Avenue passing Morgan Street at 10:10 p.m.

Northbound Racine Avenue from Exchange Avenue at 10:10 p.m.

Suspect driving eastbound on the railroad tracks just south of Pershing. The suspect crashed into a pole at some point.

Suspect on foot near Morgan and Pershing at 10:12 p.m. and tried to hop a fence. He got stuck in barbed wire on top of the fence and was taken into custody.

Suspect in custody in a parking lot at Morgan and Pershing by 10:13 p.m. The suspect was transported by Chicago Fire Department paramedics to the Level 1 Trauma Center University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition.

A suspect was taken into custody after leading police on a high-speed chase throughout Chicago Wednesday night.
