Her 9-year-old female passenger on the 2005 Harley-Davidson was transported to Northwestern Hospital in McHenry with serious injuries. The drivers of the motorcycles were not wearing helmets, The child passenger on the Trike was wearing a helmet, according to police.

The driver of the Acura Acura TLX did not initially report any injuries.

An on-scene crash investigation closed the River Road and nearby intersections until about midnight. Police say the 20 year-old female driver of the Acura had been traveling northbound on River Road when she drove into oncoming traffic for an unknown reason. The 20 year-old female driver from McHenry went into the southbound lane of traffic before striking both motorcycles, causing the riders to be ejected from the motorcycles, police said. Neighbors near the scene of the crash said the driver of the Acura was texting before the crash. Police investigators are attempting to interview witnesses, and are checking phone records for the driver of the Acura to determine whether phone activity occurred during the time of the crash.

There is a slight curve along River Road at the scene of the crash near the border of Holiday Hills and unincorporated Nunda Township in McHenry County. A northbound driver on River Road that would fail to navigate the curve would drift into the oncoming southbound lanes. The Speed Limit on River Road is 50 MPH according to Google Maps Street View on October 12, 2012

An ongoing crash investigation is underway with the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit, Holiday Hills Police Department and the coroner’s office.
