Police and firefighter/paramedics from Antioch responded about 11:10 a.m. Thursday March 5 , 2020 to a report of a house fire in the block of 200 North Main Street in Antioch.

Firefighters were on the scene in three minutes and found heavy smoke coming from the single story house and a large amount of fire coming from windows on the northwest side of the house. As crews forced entry into the structure, they were informed by a neighbor that the residents were not home and there were no pets inside. Water was quickly applied to the body of the fire and was extinguished within 20 minutes.

Firefighters remained on scene for about an hour checking for extension, overhauling the fire scene, and ensuring the fire was completely out.

The cause of the fire that left the home uninhabitable is under investigation. Damage is estimated at approximately $100,000.

The fire scene was located on the far north side of Antioch near the Illinois-Wisconsin state line and north of the Canadian National railroad track located just north of North Avenue. Fire Chief Jon Cokefair emphasized that, “This fire was on the northside of the Canadian National railroad tracks and had there been a freight train at the time, the response would have been slowed and the outcome would have been more severe.” Chief Cokefair went on to thank the neighboring departments that assisted in this response; Salem Lakes, Lake Villa, Round Lake. Fire agencies covering the Fire District during this call were dispatched from Waukegan, Great Lakes, Grayslake, Spring Grove, and Bristol.
