Gov. Pritzker Activates Illinois National Guard from 182nd Airlift Wing in Peoria, and Other Army and Air National Guard to Assist with Logistical Support and Medical Staffing

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 activated about 60 Illinois National Guard service members from the Air and Army National Guard to assist first responders and medical providers with the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic response.

The Illinois National Guard released the following statement on Facebook at 6:51 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2020 …

“Governor JB Pritzker has activated about 60 Illinois National Guard service members to assist with COVID-19 response. These include 43 Airmen from the Peoria-based 182nd Airlift Wing’s Medical Group and 17 planners and liaison officers from both Army National Guard and Air National Guard units from across the state, including medical planners. The activation is to assist with anticipated need for logistical support and medical staffing.”

The 182nd Airlift Wing (182 AW) is a unit of the Illinois Air National Guard, stationed at Peoria Air National Guard Base, Peoria, Illinois (Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport). Initially, it is unknown where the Illinois Air National Guard’s 182nd Airlift Wing will be deployed.

The 43 members from the 182nd Airlift Wing are likely part of the Chemical, Biological, Radiological/Nuclear and High Explosive Response Force Package team.

Illinois National Guard airmen and soldiers received hazardous materials training from the Illinois Fire Service Institute to enhance their capabilities as the state’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological/Nuclear and High Explosive Response Force Package team.

Aircraft seen at the Peoria Air national Guard Base are C-130 Hercules and CH-47 Chinook transport helicopters.
