Schaumburg Best Buy Burglarized 2 Days After Overnight Burglary at Arlington Heights Store

#ad▼

Schaumburg police responded at 9:48 a.m. Saturday February 22, 2020 to investigate a burglary at the Schaumburg Best Buy, 900 East Golf Road. Best Buy opens at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, and some store personnel arrive a few hours before the store’s daily opening. Initially, there was no information released regarding what time the burglary occurred, but it seems possible the burglary was detected well after the actual occurrence.

In Arlington Heights an overnight burglary was interrupted by an activated burglar alarm last Wednesday at about 3:35 a.m. at the Arlington Heights Best Buy store, which begs the question, did burglars in Schaumburg defeat the alarm system or did the alarm system fail?

A burglar or multiple burglars entered near the ceiling of the Arlington Heights store from an adjacent vacant retail space — the former Marshalls. The Arlington Heights burglar(s) possibly thought they could buy some time by entering the store without activating a door sensor, or perhaps they thought they had prolonged time inside the store while they presumed there was no interior motion detector type sensor.

Both Arlington Heights and Schaumburg police use encrypted police radio communications at an extra cost per radio with one of the purposes being to prevent criminals from being aware when police are responding to these types of crimes.

Arlington Heights police received a report about 3:35 AM Wednesday February 19, 2020 of a commercial burglary at Best Buy, 615 East Palatine Road Arlington Heights, Illinois. Police received a report that an unknown offender or offenders unlawfully made entry to Best Buy using ceiling access from an adjacent business to scale the building.

The offender or offenders made entry into the neighboring business, cut into the ceiling of the business, and used ceiling access to make entry into the Best Buy.

A commercial burglary alarm activated and was automatically forwarded to Northwest Central Dispatch System, and Arlington Heights police responded to the scene. The offender or offenders ran on foot from the scene and were not located by police officers searching the area.

Investigation is underway to determine whether any items were taken.

The crime is reported to have occurred on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 between 3:27 AM and 3:34 AM. The elapsed time range including the time the crime could have occurred is 0:07 (hours: minutes).
