Three Hurt in Multi-Vehicle Crash on Route 45 Just South of Route 147 in Libertyville

Libertyville police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:45 a.m. Thursday, January 9, 2020 to a report of a multi-vehicle crash with entrapment on Route 45 just south of Route 137 (Buckley Road) under the high-tension power lines that cross Route 45 in Libertyville.

At least five vehicles were involved in the crash. Drivers of three of the vehicles were transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where they were described in “stable condition” Thursday afternoon. Two victims were extricated by firefighters.

Three other crash victims were assessed and treated at the scene by paramedics, and refused transportation by ambulance.

Route 45 was closed between Peterson Road and Casey Road closed for over four hours after the crash during an extended crash investigation. Traffic routes in the area were affected by traffic congestion.

Most of the vehicles were scattered along the northbound lanes of Route 45 with three vehicles facing southbound, one vehicle perpendicular across lanes, and one vehicle facing northbound. One vehicle, facing the opposite direction was located on the grass

Libertyville police did not release details of the crash. The Lake County Major Crash Team is assisting the Libertyville Police Department with the investigation. The Speed Limit on Route 45 is 45 MPH.

A MABAS Division 4 EMS Box Alarm #46-99 was activated at 8:00 a.m. at the location of of Route 45 and the Metra tracks. A train was not involved in the crash. Firefighter/paramedics and/chiefs from Buffalo Grove, Countryside, Grayslake, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Lake Villa, Lincolnshire, Mundelein, Newport, Wheeling, and Zion assisted Libertyville firefighter/paramedics either at the scene or by standing by in Libertyville fire stations.

The EMS Box Alarm was struck out about 8:22 a.m.
