The woman was rushed by Niles Fire Department paramedics to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where she was pronounced dead at 6:29 p.m. Sunday.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office released the identity of the 68-year-old woman as Nirmalaben M. Shah, of the block of 700 Dursey Lane in Des Plaines. An autopsy is scheduled by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

A motorist in a small red sedan was traveling southbound in the block of 9400 Milwaukee Avenue, Niles when Nirmalaben M. Shah was struck by the vehicle. She was crossing Milwaukee Avenue with a man from Golf Mill Shopping Center on the west side of Milwaukee Avenue toward Golf Mill Ford on the east side of Milwaukee Avenue. Both pedestrians were crossing mid-block without a crosswalk.

Police did not release the identity of the 39-year-old driver of the small red sedan that struck Nirmalaben M. Shah. The driver, also a resident of Des Plaines, is not facing charges. Niles police said the preliminary investigation “determined impairment or distraction were not a contributing factor in the accident.”

Milwaukee Avenue was closed Sunday night between Golf Road and Maryland Street during the crash investigation. The roadway was cleared by about midnight Sunday/Monday.
