Fatal rollover crash into IL-53 Spur expressway sign support, southbound lanes north of Dundee Rd.
Illinois State Police and Palatine firefighter/paramedics responded about 10:18 PM Thursday November 14, 2019 to a report of a rollover crash with injuries on the southbound Route 53 Spur north of IL Route 53 and Dundee Road Palatine, IL. Firefighter/paramedics on arrival reported a confirmed extrication with a vehicle rolled over into an expressway sign.
Minutes later, Palatine firefighter/paramedics reported they were working on a delayed extrication for a crash victim that was dead at the scene.
Firefighter/paramedics also searched the should area thoroughly for any possible ejection victims.
For an unknown reason the driver of a silver large pickup truck left the roadway, jumping of a guardrail and striking the large steel support of the expressway sign for the Dundee Road exit. The roof and top of the pickup truck wrapped around the support of the expressway sign, killing and entrapping the driver. Palatine firefighter/paramedics used a winch to upright the truck and used extrication cutters and spreader tools “Jaws of Life” to remove the victim from the vehicle.
Long Grove FPD firefighter/paramedics responded to assist Palatine firefighter/paramedics, but were returned. A-Express Towing provided vehicle recovery services.
Illinois State Police are investigating the crash.
Although the cause of the crash is unknown, the images of this crash serve as a reminder to drive carefully, drive defensively, don’t text and drive, don’t drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs or excessive fatigue, and drive the proper speed.
