ONE OF FIRST PARAMEDICS IN ILLINOIS

Dennis E. “Denny” Ritter age 75, of Algonquin, a retired firefighter serving as a lieutenant for the Arlington Heights Fire Department with 25 years of Service, passed away at his home on Sunday, October 13, 2019.

Denny, was one of the first paramedics in the State of Illinois, where he found a passion to help people and be a friend to everyone. Always with a cup of coffee in his hand, he loved woodworking and playing golf while sharing a story. The story that he will leave with his family and friends, is that we are all grateful that he was in our lives. He truly was “one of a kind”.

Dennis was born on October 24, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois the son of Edward and Theresa (Schlee) Ritter

He is survived by his wife, Colette Ritter; his children, Denise Spence, Dale Ritter and Cheryl Smith; his grandchildren, Carly Spence, Haylee Spence and Joseph Smith; his great-grandson Jordan Coriaty; sister Char (Mark) O’Meara; his nieces and nephews, Kristine (Alan) Kuta, Shannon Leahy, Patrick (Brandi) Leahy, Kevin Leahy and Lucy Leahy; his great-nieces and nephews, Shawn Kuta, Jade Kuta and Destiny King including many others and dear friends; most of all his beloved canine buddies, “Lacy” and “Tucker”.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his grandson, Timothy Spence and his brother Alan Ritter.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Fire Department Bell Ceremony beginning at 6:45 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 7:00 PM that evening at Willow Funeral Home & Cremation Care 1415 W. Algonquin Rd. (one mile east of Randall Rd.) Algonquin/Lake in the Hills.
