Fatal one-vehicle motorcycle crash on westbound Dundee Road (Route 68) east of Route 53 in Arlington Heights.
Authorities on Tuesday September 17, 2019 released the identity of a motorcyclist killed in a crash near Dundee Road and Route 53 as Joseph Z. Leibovitz, age 36, of Arlington Heights. Leibovitz was pronounced dead at Northwest Community Hospital at 4:26 p.m.
According to Arlington Heights Police Department Cmdr. Thomas Henderson, Leibovitz was traveling westbound on Dundee Road about 3:20 p.m. Monday when a witness saw his 2005 Honda Goldwing motorcycle wobble and leave the roadway before crashing on the grass shoulder on the north side of Dundee Road. The motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the crash.
Police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:20 PM Monday, September 16, 2019 to a report of a serious motorcycle crash near Dundee Road and Wilke Road.
The crash was a one-vehicle crash that occurred on westbound Dundee Road about halfway between Wilke Road and Route 53. For an unknown reason, motorcyclist Joseph Z. Leibovitz ran off the road from the westbound lanes of Dundee Road into a grass ditch. Arlington Heights police stated that the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet.
The motorcyclist was treated by firefighter/paramedics from Arlington Heights and Palatine fire departments, and transported to Northwest Community Hospital with life-threatening injuries, and was pronounced dead at the Emergency Department of Northwest Community Hospital a little over an hour after the crash.
The motorcyclist’s name and other identifiers were initially withheld by Arlington Heights police until the motorcyclist’s family were provided with a notification about the crash.
The westbound lanes of Dundee Road were closed at Wilke Road for an extended crash investigation until about 7:45 PM Monday. However, police were still working at the scene past 9:00 PM.
