Gurnee police and firefighter/paramedics responded just after 7:35 a.m. Monday September 16, 2019, to a report of a fatal crash involving a motorcyclist and a semi-trailer truck near Route 45 and Dada Drive. Police arrived first on the scene and found a motorcycle collided with a semi-truck on Route 45 just south of Sheridan Avenue in far west Gurnee near Third Lake. The driver of the motorcycle sustained fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to the Gurnee Police Department. The driver of the semi-truck did not initially report any injuries.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office also responded to the fatal crash scene. The identity of the motorcyclist was not initially released, pending notification of the motorcyclist’s family.

The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team was assigned to assist the Gurnee Police Department with the crash investigation. The roadways near Route 45 and Dada Drive were closed Monday morning for the crash investigation, but were reopened Monday afternoon.

Both the truck and the motorcycle were located on the northbound side of Route 45. The semi-trailer truck was positioned northbound on the shoulder. Initially it was unknown if the motorcyclist might have failed to make the curve and straightened into the oncoming lane for a head-on crash with the truck, or if the motorcyclist was rear-ended by the truck. The Speed Limit along the stretch of Route 45 is 45 MPH. There are no driveways or hidden driveways between Sheridan Avenue and Park Place/Cascade Way. The curve is a fairly tight turn along Route 45.
