Jimmy Harris, age 60, of Wheeling died Sunday afternoon August 4, 2019 about 3 days after he was seriously injured when he was hit by a vehicle at Wolf Road and Strong Street in Wheeling on Thursday night August 1, 2019. Harris was transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital by Wheeling firefighter/paramedics on Thursday night, and was pronounced dead at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge Sunday afternoon.
Wheeling police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 8:48 PM Thursday August 1, 2019 to a report of a person hit by a vehicle at Wolf Road and Strong Street Wheeling, Il Wheeling, Il. Engine 24’s crew was on the scene by 8:51 p.m. and discovered one patient struck by a vehicle. The Wheeling Fire Department ambulance with firefighter/paramedics arrived second later, treated him at the scene and transported him to Level I Trauma Center Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
Wheeling police department conducted an extended vehicle vs pedestrian crash investigation several hours after the crash. Wheeling police say Harris was struck by a vehicle that was being driven southbound on Wolf Road about 8:45 p.m. Thursday. The vehicle had a green light as it entered the intersection with Strong Street when Harris entered the roadway and was struck.
The Speed Limit along southbound Wolf Road is 35 MPH and changes to 25 MPH south of Strong Avenue, according to Google Maps Street View. The intersection is controlled by stoplight traffic signals.
The driver of the vehicle that hit Harris remained at the scene and cooperated with police investigators. No citations or charges are likely, according to Wheeling Police Department.
