Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded about 7:15 a.m. Wednesday July 31, 2019 to a report of a rollover traffic with injuries on Route 12, north of Case Road, Volo. Sheriff’s Deputies upon arrival at the crash scene near Platinum Autobody of Volo and just north of Volo Storage, found a driver and passenger injured from a one-vehicle rollover pickup truck crash.

The female driver of the truck wasn’t wearing her seatbelt and was partially ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger, an 18-year-old female of Wauconda, was wearing her seatbelt and sustained minor injuries. She was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in unincorporated Barrington with non-life-threatening injuries. The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and scheduled an autopsy for Thursday.

Preliminary investigation discovered a 2000 GMC pickup truck, carrying a sealcoating tank in the pickup truck bed, was driven by an 18-year-old female of Volo. The driver and a passenger were both northbound in the truck on Route 12, north of Case Road. As the pickup truck traveled north, the driver of the vehicle for an unknown reason drove off the east side of the roadway. She then overcorrected, likely causing the vehicle to roll.

At the time of the crash both the driver and the passenger were working as summer/seasonal Wauconda School District employees, and recent Wauconda High School graduates. Wauconda School District administration has activated their Crisis Team and were working to issue information to students, parents, and staff with grief counseling options. Information regarding support will be available on the Wauconda School District Website at: http://www.d118.org/

The crash is being investigated by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.

US 12 was closed in both directions for an extended on scene accident investigation Wednesday morning. Northbound lanes opened about 11:00 a.m. and southbound lanes opened about noon on Wednesday. The crash occurred in straight lanes just after a slight curve on US 12.
