VIDEO: Fatal Skateboard Crash Ridge Ave After Crash Scene Investigation Arlington Heights.

Arlington Heights police are looking for any security videos or smartphone videos that may have captured the skateboarding crash that occurred about 7:00 p.m. Saturday July 27, 2019. Buffalo High School student Levi Matsuda is reported to have fallen after he was holding on to the driver’s door handle of a Honda Pilot that was southbound on Ridge Avenue just south of Foxdale Lane — the 4100 block of North Ridge Avenue.

Police have been searching online for any recordings that may show the conditions that existed during the crash. The teen, who was riding a skateboard southbound with the vehicle, became separated from the moving SUV. He then fell and hit his head. He was transported from the scene by Arlington Heights Fire Department firefighter/paramedics and died at a local hospital during emergency treatment for his injuries.

Police have interviewed the 2015 Honda Pilot’s teen driver, who stayed at the scene after the deadly accident. There were no other occupants in the vehicle, and police haven’t discovered any other witnesses to the crash. Neighbors at the scene, the following day, said that most people in the neighborhood were away from home enjoying the evening, and arrived home to discover the crash investigation in their neighborhood. A few neighbors had heard that the teen driver turned his Honda Pilot around after the teen skateboarder fell. Police marked the location of the vehicle tire positions, which were in the northbound lanes. Other markings were visible in the street were in the southbound lane of Ridge Avenue.

Rescuers responding to the scene were told that the skateboarder was not breathing after he fell.

At least one security doorbell camera was located near the scene, and a neighbor said that police talked to the owners of the home with the doorbell camera. Apparently review of the video was too dark beyond the sidewalk, and only captured the vehicle moving. This information was not confirmed by police, and is second-party information.

The Arlington Heights Police Department’s Traffic bureau, which is completing the accident reconstruction of the scene, is expecting to complete the investigation within the week. The criminal investigations bureau is assisting the traffic bureau, primarily for their technical capability.

Several neighbors explained that Ridge Avenue is the only straight street through the neighborhood from Lake Cook Road and Nichol Road. Neighbors said many drivers commonly speed along Ridge Avenue, which they said is also wider that other streets in the neighborhood. One neighbor also said the street has been especially attractive to skateboarders because it was freshly re-surfaced about two weeks ago.
