A police officer is in custody after a fatal shooting in Maywood that left one man dead and another injured.

A Melrose Park police officer was taken into custody after a fatal shooting in Maywood that left one man dead and another injured.

Maywood police responded about 7:30 p.m. Monday August 26, 2019 to the block of 400 block of West Lake Street to a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, police officers discovered two shooting victims.

The victims were identified as Arthur Walton, Jr. and Matthew Carter. Arthur Walton Jr., 33, was transported to Loyola Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Matthew Carter, 25, was also transported to Loyola Hospital, suffering a gunshot wound to the leg.

The identity of the 49-year-old Melrose Park Police officer was not initially released.
