With the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), on Saturday July 20, 2019, the Mexican Immigration Authorities located Ponce in Guanajuato, Mexico. Ponce was taken into custody based on violations of Mexican Immigration Laws, and was deported back to the United States. Upon arrival to the United States, Ponce was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service and taken to an extradition hearing which he later waived. Ponce is currently being held at the Montgomery County Jail outside Houston, Texas to await extradition to Illinois. The investigation is still on-going and formal charges are pending.

On Sunday, April 28, 2019, at approximately 11:45 pm, Palatine police officers and firefighter/paramedics responded to the block of 1900 North Green Lane North in Palatine to a report of gunshots. At the scene, officers found two male victims with apparent gun shots wounds. Firefighter/paramedics assessed a 15-year-old victim, who was struck in the upper torso and foot; and a 19-year-old victim, who was struck in the hand and foot.
