9-Year-Old Boy Missing in Bangs Lake Hours After Falling Overboard from Paddleboat

The search for a 9-year-old boy has shifted from a rescue mission to a recovery operation, authorities said Friday night.

Wauconda police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:26 PM Friday April 19, 2019 to a report of a boat flipped with kids in the water on the north side of Bangs Lake near Monroe Avenue and Edgewater Parkway Wauconda, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that at least two kids were in the water.

UPDATE: Firefighters and divers worked until about 2:48 a.m. and suspended the search until later on Saturday (7:30 a.m.). Wauconda police announced at 11:41 p.m. that Bangs Lake would be closed until further notice due to ongoing recovery efforts for the missing 9 year-old male.

Possibly one victim was safe and one victim was missing after a kayak or paddleboat capsized. One patient was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville by 8:56 p.m.

A MABAS Division 4 Box Alarm on Box #34-69 for a Dive Sonar and Open Water Rescue Box Alarm on orders of BC34 was activated by 7:34 p.m.
