FREEZE WARNING IN MCHENRY COUNTY AND KANE COUNTY
Cloud cover dissipated from the south through the afternoon, so cloud cover is not likely to hold in any warmth overnight. A cool and dry air mass and diminishing west-northwest winds from surface high pressure ridging that is slowly moving eastward will allow significant radiational cooling. Winds of about 8-9 MPH could prevent widespread frost formation outside of Chicago. Air temperature at 10:51 p.m. was 41°F at O’Hare, which is a little higher than was expected for the hour.
A Freeze Warning is activated for McHenry County and Kane County, and northern Illinois counties west to Iowa.
There are clouds to the east near Lake Michigan, but the night sky overhead and west of Arlington Heights was clear at 11:00 p.m. Bright stars and no moonlight, then clouds are expected to start moving in about 3:00 a.m.
