Wilmette Police Pursuit Stops Vehicle and Subjects Wanted for Investigation of Armed Robbery in Winnetka

Video captures traffic stop of armed robbery suspects by a Wilmette Police Officer, who had his gun pointed at 5 subjects in a champagne color Chevy Trailblazer.

Wilmette police were in pursuit of a vehicle wanted for the investigation of an armed robbery on the southbound Edens Expressway about 4:27 p.m. Monday August 27, 2018. A Wilmette police officer was in pursuit of a champagne color Chevy Trailblazer that exited southbound from the Edens Expressway to eastbound Peterson Avenue. The pursuit continued to Peterson and Cicero Avenue, where the Wilmette police officer was out with the subjects that were pulled over in the Chevy. The Wilmette police officer was alone for a short time with 5 suspects at gunpoint. Soon Chicago police and Illinois State Police arrived for backup. Cicero Avenue is located only about 750 feet east of the Edens-Peterson interchange.

The five subjects in the Chevy Trailblazer were wanted for investigation of an armed robbery that was reported to have occurred earlier Monday afternoon in Winnetka.

Winnetka police responded about 4:15 p.m. Monday to a report of an armed robbery in the block of 900 Ash Street. When police arrived at the armed robbery scene, they obtained a description of the vehicle that was used in the robbery.

A Wilmette police officer saw a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle connected with the armed robbery and followed it to the southbound lanes of the Edens Expressway. The pursuit continued until the traffic stop near the intersection of Cicero Avenue and Peterson Avenue at about 4:30 p.m.

Winnetka police, Chicago police and Illinois State Police also arrived at the traffic stop.

The traffic stop and location of apprehension of the subjects at Peterson Avenue and Cicero Avenue is located in Chicago’s Sauganash neighborhood.
