Arlington Heights Police Department Receives Top Award for Traffic Safety from the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police and Illinois Department of Transportation

On August 15, 2018, the Arlington Heights Police Department was presented with the first place award for the 2017-2018 Illinois Traffic Safety Challenge. The award was presented by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police at the Midwest Police and Security Expo in Tinley Park, Illinois.

The Illinois Traffic Safety Challenge is coordinated by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police (ILACP) Traffic Committee and supported by a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) grant administered through the Illinois Department of Transportation. The challenge targets three major traffic safety priorities: occupant protection, speeding and impaired driving, in
addition to other traffic safety initiatives. Programs receiving the award effectively combine traffic enforcement, public educational activities and innovative problem solving strategies.

‘The Illinois Traffic Safety Challenge allows our Department to analyze and demonstrate our success as an organization in traffic safety,’ said Commander Greg Czernecki of the Arlington Heights Police Department. ‘Ultimately, our goal as an organization is to reduce the number of traffic related crashes, injuries and deaths in our community. Receiving this award, as evaluated by our law enforcement peers and traffic safety professionals, validates our on-going commitment to developing innovative strategies in traffic safety.’
